Eligibility

The criteria you must meet to purchase or be covered under the insurance plan, such as age limits, residency status, or travel requirements.

Visitor / status in Canada	Must be a visitor to Canada or a person in Canada under a valid work or student visa, or a Canadian/immigrant not eligible for benefits under a government health insurance plan.
Age	Must be at least 15 days old and less than 90 years old.
Travel/medical advice	Must not be travelling against the advice of a physician and/or not have been diagnosed with a terminal illness.
New/undiagnosed symptoms	Must not be experiencing new or undiagnosed signs/symptoms and/or know of any reason to seek medical attention.
Activities of daily living	Must not require assistance with activities of daily living (dressing, bathing, eating, using the toilet, getting in/out of bed or chair).
Cancer history	Must not have been diagnosed or treated for pancreatic, liver, lung, brain, or any metastasized cancer.
Dialysis	Must not have been diagnosed or treated for a kidney condition requiring dialysis within the last 24 months.
Transplant	Must not have been diagnosed or treated for bone marrow or organ transplant within the last 24 months.
Terminal sickness (life expectancy)	Must not have been diagnosed for terminal sickness with less than 2 years to live.
Home oxygen	Must not have taken home oxygen in the past 12 months prior to the effective date.

Refunds

The amount you may be eligible to receive back if you cancel your policy, depending on the timing and the insurer’s refund terms.

Refund scenario	What the policy says
Cancel within 10 days of purchase	You may cancel within 10 days of the purchase date for a full refund, provided it is before the effective date.
Cancel before the effective date	If cancellation is requested prior to the effective date, the full premium paid will be refunded less any applicable administration fee.
Super Visa refusal	If the policy was purchased for a Super Visa application, proof from Citizenship and Immigration Canada that the Super Visa was denied is required before the refund is accepted and processed.
Partial refund (unused portion)	The premium paid (less any administration fees) may be partially refunded for the unused portion if termination is requested because you return to your country of origin early or you become eligible/covered under a government health insurance plan during the coverage period.
Deadline + how to request	Refund requests must be received in writing by your broker or sales agent no later than 60 days from: the date you became eligible/covered under a government health plan, or the date of early return, or the policy expiry date.
Proof required + refund calculation date	Once the broker/agent receives proof (example: airline ticket/boarding pass, customs/immigration stamp for early return; or proof of government plan eligibility date), the refund is calculated from that date; otherwise it’s based on the postmarked date of the written request.

Extensions

The option to continue your coverage by extending the policy duration before it expires, subject to approval and conditions.

Temporary return home (coverage resumes)	You may return to your country of origin before expiry and coverage resumes with no additional premium when you return to Canada (as long as you remain eligible). Premium for days spent on the temporary visit is not refunded/reissued. Any condition with symptoms or treatment during the temporary visit is not covered.
How to extend (request timing)	To remain in Canada beyond expiry, you must contact your broker or sales agent prior to the expiry date and have no reason to seek medical attention during the new coverage period.
New policy / additional days	You may purchase a new policy subject to terms/conditions and premium schedule in effect at the time. Additional days are priced using the insured’s age on the effective date of the new policy, provided: (a) you remain eligible, (b) no changes in health since effective/arrival date, (c) request received before expiry, (d) premium paid.
If a claim happened	If you have submitted a claim, the insurer will review your file before granting an extension. Any condition treated during the initial coverage period is automatically excluded from the extended coverage period. Insurer can decline extension requests.
Minimum premium	Minimum premium is $20 per policy.
Automatic extension (without extra premium)	After notifying MSH Assistance, coverage extends automatically up to 72 hours if your stay is prolonged beyond expiry due to listed reasons (example shown: delay beyond your control of a vehicle/airline/bus/train/ferry; delay must occur prior to expiry and conveyance due to arrive prior to expiry).
Renewal limitation (follow-up after expiry)	Upon renewal, wording may be included: medically required follow-up scheduled after expiry (accident or sickness—sickness limited to $1,000) must be pre-approved by the Assistance Centre and only considered if the initial emergency was reported before expiry and is a payable claim.
